Physical properties:
Magnesium oxide is a white or beige powdery substance, tasteless, odorless and non-toxic. The relative density is 3.85, and the high-purity light-burning powder is more expensive per ton of magnesium oxide. The melting point is 2852°C and the boiling point is 3600°C.
Chemical properties:
Soluble in acid and ammonia salt solution, insoluble in pure water and organic solvents, and its solubility in water is increased by the presence of carbon dioxide. High temperature (1000 ℃) into the crystal when fired. Above 1500℃, it becomes sintered magnesia. Magnesium oxide is an alkaline oxide. When exposed to air, it easily absorbs water and carbon dioxide to become basic magnesium carbonate, which combines with water to form magnesium hydroxide.
